Health Promotion Aims

In order to promote good healthy eating habits, along with suggestions from our Pupil Council we aim to:

·         Promote the drinking of water and milk

·         Develop the variety and taste of food offered as part of the school meals  

·         Encourage children to eat fruit, vegetables and salad 

·         Discourage the prominence of sweets, cake, crisps, sweetened drinks and processed food stuffs

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SCHOOL MEALS          

 

·         Please note that meal choices are requested with payment on Fridays for the following week or alternatively for the following four weeks.

*The warm meal option  will consist of a warm dish with bread  and a choice of vegetable and/or salad, along with one choice from the health bar e.g.: homemade soup, milk and fruit, yoghurt, or school meal dessert.

 #A Sandwich Meal Option is also be offered to Primary 3 to 7 pupils . 

This will consist of Homemade Soup (sometimes fruit juice), 

the Sandwich Choices of the day, and either, ‘Milk and Fruit’ or Yoghurt.

If children bring their own food into school, we ask that families make arrangements for these lunches to conform to some simple guidelines for healthy eating and hygiene:

 

These guidelines are based on the advice from the Scottish Executive about promoting Healthy Eating in Scottish Schools. The attached advice on packed lunches has been drawn up by Fiona Clarke, dietician advising the School Meals Service for the Highland Council.

  HEALTHY MORNING SNACK a healthy and refreshing morning snack at a bargain price !

For Primary 4 to 7 pupils : cup of milk  (or water) along with a piece of fruit and toast can be purchased in the dining room at morning interval for 25p per day.

Fruit usually on offer includes: melon, grapes, banana, orange, apple, pear, kiwi, cucumber, tomatoes

All infant pupils are offered a healthy snack before interval each day. A contribution is requested from parents on a termly basis (Primary 1& 2 - 15p per day ; Primary 3 - 25p)
